Eeeeh so here this is even though it will bother me that it'll sit in the recent upload bar along with with my photography. I'm not sure why that bugs me, but mixing the two just does. Especially since my digital art isn't something to get all worked up about (yet?). But I'll stop whining, for obviously I'm uploading anyway.

But alas, I'm still alive. Working on another painting (art trade thing, Tiger, it's in the works), will have a tumblr soon, and more photographs to come. Ah, but what am I doing? This is a deviation description not a journal. ^^;

This was suggested to me, and I thought, why not? I haven't painted anywhere near enough AC fan art, and as I'm looking forward to AC3, Connor was as good a subject as ever. Lightly referenced and inspired from the gameplay trailer. As I was flipping the image back and forth, I feel the image reads better with Connor on the left side, but alas, he aims this way in the video and I didn't want to switch the left/right arms just because it sort of looked better. I grew ever more displeased with this as it sat on my desktop, so I figured I should upload before I really didn't like it (but how many times has an artist said THAT).

It's absolutely lovely! This is a huge improvement from some of your earlier pieces, and I'm jealous of your ability to make things look as if you can feel them. That's really hard to achieve digitally. Also, your anatomy and everything is just great. The bow looks a little off (like he's holding it to the side with the bow string facing to the right), but I can completely understand since it's a difficult angle and perspective. :clap:

Your part of the trade is also in the works - well, more of just sitting in a dusty folder at the moment. Now that I'm free of my animal duties, I should have more time to work on art (as soon as I get caught up this weekend in school). :D

Also, yay for tumblr and art and everything. :dummy:

Aw, thank you! :tighthug: I can see what you're saying about the bow. Perhaps I could have emphasized light/shadow a little more on it, to get the angle across. It was difficult anyway, because in that short little clip I used as referenced he doesn't even seem to pull it back very far, which might not look strange in the video, but in painting it, it didn't seem to read quite right. Felt he wasn't putting any effort in pulling that string back.

Looks like as soon as you're free of animal duites, I get quite the load. :P Ha, it will all get done in time, hopefully, including that tumblr!

Okay, so I looked through that game demo you linked to, and I completely misinterpreted the position of the arms. It makes a TON more sense now - he's left handed, and the arm that's extended is his right. It's probably just the lack of contrast and the tricky angle (or me =P), but to me it looked like his left hand was extended holding the bow while the right was hidden (or just not holding the string yet). I can see the arrow better now, too.

Anyway, emphasizing the shadow would have definitely helped. (The bow looks okay actually, now that I see how things are supposed to overlap.) A lot of times the reference doesn't translate well to the painting/drawing, and we have to fiddle with things to make it look right. Maybe drawing the bowstring in a more angled position (like he actually was pulling it back to his face) would have made it look better. It happens so fast in the video that you don't get a chance to really see what took place, so like you said it doesn't look strange. But with a painting of a particular scene, it's frozen exactly like that forever.

Haha, yes! I've heard that the little one is quite a handful. Even with the animals gone, school is taking up a lot of my time - hence no art lately. If I do anything, it's just doodles or small pieces that I don't post here. :hmm:
Everything will fall into place eventually. :aww:
